Learn More About A Best Man Speech

There are so many details to consider when planning a wedding. There are many tools available to help with this such as books, magazines and wedding planning guides; however some details seem to be left to chance. My daughter is in the process of planning her wedding. She has not been the kind of girl that has talked about her dream wedding. She has spent more time getting an education and building a career. Now that she has found the perfect job and marriage partner she is putting a great deal of energy into creating the perfect wedding day.

My daughter has always been very close to her brother. Her fiancé has a sister that he is very close to. They have decided that the brother will be the best man and the sister will be the maid of honor. This is somewhat different in that the maid of honor is usually the bride’s friend and the best man the groom’s, but this seemed like a natural decision. My daughter is discovering that picking her brother for the best man is causing her some anxiety. She now realizes that he will give the best man speech, and he has been teasing her with all kinds of possible stories that he could tell. My son loves to tease people. He is very funny and has dedicated most of his life to giving his sister a hard time. He is not going to let the opportunity of harassing her about the best man speech pass him by.

Last weekend my daughter and son were at the same wedding. A mutual friend of theirs from college was married. My son was the best man in this wedding also. My daughter told me that his best man speech was hilarious, however now she is even more concerned what he is going to say during her wedding. She does not want me or her father to talk to him about the best man speech; because she is concerned that if he knows she is stressed about it he will tease her even more.

I told my daughter that she can tell her brother that they are not going to have the traditional toasts during the reception. She can mention that her fiancé’s father has asked if he can do a toast and there is only time for one. This way she can get back at her brother for all the teasing. When it is time for the toast at the wedding they can announce that it is time for the best man speech. This will put him on the spot and he will not have rehearsed a harassing story. She thinks that this is a good idea and she is going to talk to him before the wedding about not having to prepare a best man speech.
