Tips For Chosing The Perfect Bridal Bouquets
Planning weddings can be a very stressful time. For some women they have envisioned their wedding day since they were little girls, so they have many expectations and details to fulfill. Other women are comfortable leaving the planning to others and still other women want to forget the whole scene and elope. No matter which category the woman falls into everyone seems to want the tradition of carrying bridal bouquets.
My daughter is no exception to this. In fact I would have to admit that she has been obsessed with bridal bouquets since she was a young girl. When ever she would see a wedding picture the first thing she would look at would be the flowers the bride was carrying. She was always intrigued by the bridal bouquets that my mother and her attendant carried. My mother weighed ninety eight pounds and stood five feet tall at the time of her wedding. Her small frame seemed to emphasize the size of the bouquet of flowers that she carried. My parents were married in 1941. The trend back then was to have large arrangements for the bride to carry. Mom’s arrangement held a dozen roses, a dozen cannas lilies and ivy and baby’s breath. Her attendant’s bouquet was almost the same size. My daughter was convinced that she wanted to have the same bridal bouquets in her wedding.
Now that my daughter is engaged and is planning her wedding we are looking into the price of the clothing, reception space rentals, decorations and flowers. My daughter is very petite so she asked my mother if she could try on the wedding dress that she wore. The dress is now over sixty years old. The white satin has turned a rich ivory color. The dress was too small for my daughter and we agreed that it was too precious to try to alter. She did take several photos of it and took them to a seamstress to have a replica made. She also took a picture of the wedding bouquets to a florist to have them replicated. The wedding dress has a very simple design without a great deal of embellishments so it was very reasonable; however the estimated price of the bridal bouquets were very high. The florist showed my daughter picture of arrangements that are popular today, but she wanted to have the large arrangements. Today the trend is to carry flowers by the stems that are held together with a ribbon. My daughter thinks they lack character. I told my daughter to go ahead and order the bridal bouquets that she wanted. You only get married once and she has been dreaming about mom’s bouquet since she was a child. I think my mom will be pleased to see the dress and flowers. It is a compliment to know that your taste and ideas are being repeated by someone else.
